"It's in English! It's logical! I like that you can create things on the fly rather than going back. Constantly jumping around. Everything you need to complete this task you can do from this screen and not jump around." - Salesforce Administrator
This was a 6-week long intensive project to envision the next generation Salesforce business automation. A team of 5 researchers and designers iterated through formative research, ideation and validation in weekly sprints working closely with product managers and the CTO. The request from the team was to identify gaps and opportunities in the current Salesforce workflow and approval tools and to propose a new design for the next generation. Their work helped the product team to secure developer commitment and define a timeline for execution.
My role: Creative Director and Manager
Team: 5 designers and user researchers
Deliverables: Executive Presentation and Prototype
Existing Interface:
Current landing page for workflows
Current detail page for a single workflow
Proposed design direction:
The team's activities during the project:
- Interviewed 7 users and surveyed 60 users
- Collaborated with data scientists to examine customer support issues and usage information
- Followed IdeaExchange and Customer Success Community discussions
- Generated 5 initial concepts and narrowed them first to 2 concepts and then a final one
- Iterated on the final concept and built an executive presentation and a prototype
Design Principles:
- All actions are to be contextualized.
- Visual and verbal feedback are table stakes.
- Make the system as flexible as we can.
- Keep the engagement low, fast, and lightweight.
- Expand what's possible in status quo automation.
- Keep it mission critical.
